What are the Most Likely Causes of Chronic Low Back Pain when You’re Over 50?

Low Back Pain can be caused by a lot of different things but, in people between the ages of 50-65, there are some usual culprits that are most likely the cause.

Arthritis in the Hips or Spine: When your hips or low back are injured or aren’t functioning properly, your body does it’s best to adapt to the situation so that you can keep moving. In the beginning this adaptation takes the form of muscles compensating for the issue. Over time the muscles can become weak and can no longer handle adapting to the stress on the body. When muscle adaptation starts to fail, your body makes a more permanent adaptation to the stress that is being put on it. To do this, your body will start to change the structure of the skeleton in order to help. This is part of what causes the process of degenerative arthritis in your body. While this “adaptation” helps your body deal with the stress that is being put on it, it also causes some very permanent issues that will eventually turn into chronic low back issues.

Bulging or Herniated Lower Spinal Discs: When you put continued stress on the “shock absorbing structures” in between the bony parts of your spine, they can start to shrink or perform in a way that isn’t healthy. Think of your discs as balloons that are getting constantly squeezed in one direction all the time as you go about your day. The difference between bulging and herniated discs is usually the difference between the need for aggressive care or surgery (this can be determined via an exam and advanced imaging).

Leg Issues that end up Causing Lower Back Issues: Sometimes low back pain is simply a symptom of your low back adapting to issues in your knees and feet. Many times correcting the knee or foot issue is enough to take an enormous amount of stress off of your low back.

The Treatment Protocol We’ve Been Successfully Using to Help People over the Age of 50 to Get Relief from Their Low Back Pain.

Harmony Wellness Center’s Senior Low Back Pain Treatment Protocol:

Over the last 12 years we’ve focused our office on helping seniors beat low back pain. While some offices focus on being a “catch all” provider, we have been dialing in our acupuncture procedure for helping patients who suffer from a few specific ailments.

After working with hundreds of Seniors who have been afflicted with low back pain for years, we’ve tailored a treatment protocol that is specifically focused to the body of a Senior Citizen. Because of this focus, we’ve developed a gentle and medication free Low Back Pain Chinese medicine treatment that has been very successful.

Our Focused Treatment Protocol uses a combination of Gentle Acupuncture Treatments and Cupping Therapy, along with a Focused personal Home Rehabilitation program.

The Careful Combination of these treatments can help you overcome years of wear and tear that you may have put your body through. Our Senior Low Back Pain Acupuncture Treatment Protocol works to increase circulation in the area of your pain, loosening up the tight muscles, and decreasing inflammation in the areas where the needles are placed locally. The acupuncture stimulates your Central Nervous System to block the pain signals getting to your brain, releasing opioid-like chemicals that reduce pain. Many of our patients say the treatments are extremely relaxing, which can also play a role in relieving your pain.

Most of the low back issues we see took years to develop, so we give your body the adequate amount of time that it needs to adapt to treatment because no two patient’s low back conditions are alike. This is critical in making sure that you heal as quickly as possible, while staying safe.

You Should Know Exactly What Caused Your Problem and the Best Options to Fix it… Before You Make Any Big Decisions…

We have a very Simple Policy here at Harmony Wellness Center. We don’t do any treatment until you understand exactly what is causing your low back pain and you know what your options for fixing it are (even if fixing it involves something outside of what our office can provide.) We work for you and our job is to make sure you know all of the options out there and can make an informed decision.

If your condition is something we think we can help with, we’ll schedule you for an appointment with the Acupuncture Doctor (if we don’t think your condition is a fit, we’ll refer you to where we think you should go).

Step 2:

We Setup a Private Appointment with Dr. Christina Prieto. We’ll schedule you for an initial TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) exam and consultation in our office with the Acupuncturist. We Do a Focused TCM Exam to Determine what Causes Your Low Back Pain. During your relaxed consultation, the Acupuncturist will perform a TCM exam and pulse diagnosis, and an individual health and family history to determine what condition you are actually suffering from and get to the root cause of the problem.

Step 4:

We will walk you through What We Found during the Exam and Present You With Your Options. The Acupuncture Doctor will  explain exactly what she found and walk you through the findings and recommended treatment options. You will be presented with all of the possible paths to treat what is going on in your specific case.

Step 5:

YOU DECIDE if you want to Move Forward with the Recommended Treatment. We never do any treatment until you fully understand what is going on, what your options are, how much treatment will cost, and how long it will take. We make sure that you understand everything that is going on at every step of the process and that you are ready to move forward. We have a strict “No Surprises” Policy in our Office when it comes to Patient Care.

What Our Patients Are Saying About Their Experience with The Harmony Wellness Center Low Back Pain Protocol.

“Hello Miss Christina,

After two days of the worse back pain I can remember in years, I eagerly became acquainted with you and your caring and healing processes.  I felt the moment I walked into your location, that I was important to you and you were going to help me.  With my trust in you and your relaxing ways, I enjoyed the experience and felt immediate relief.  Not only was I incredibly in less pain the next day, I was able to go to work on Monday as if I had never experience the agony of that weekend. Thank You,

Gary

“Dear Christina,
I can’t thank you enough for helping me yesterday. When I got up off the table, besides being in a comatose state I was 100% pain free. I walked to the bathroom and then down the hallway to see Sarah and was in disbelief that the pain I was feeling was gone. I took it easy like you advised last night and when I woke up this morning able to jump out of my bed I threw my shoes on stretched and headed out the door for a 2 1/2 mile walk. I literally had tears rolling down my cheeks this morning as I walked pain free. I am overflowing with gratitude to you for healing yet another weary part of this body of mine. I’m eager to face the cliffs of the pacific and the hills in San Fran next month as I trek through the beauty of the west coast spilling forth gratitude that I can do it pain free!
With an abundance of gratitude for you and your healing touch,
Kari

Frequently Asked Questions:

t

How Much Does it Cost? Every patient has a different condition and because of that each patient will have a different treatment plan. We will always explain the cost before we do anything that you have to pay for and will also assist you in payment options. We would be happy to talk with you on specifics at any time via phone or in the office.

t

Does Your Office Accept my Insurance? We accept a variety of insurance coverage. To confirm benefits, fill out the form above so that our office can call you and get your information. We will then contact your insurance company and confirm that you are covered before you decide to move forward.

t

What if My Insurance isn’t Accepted? We have a variety of options to make treatment affordable for our patients who don’t have insurance or fall outside of our coverage area. We do everything we can to make the cost of care easy and affordable for everyone who is trying to get well.

t

Does Acupuncture hurt? This is the most common question asked about acupuncture because many people associate needles with pain. Acupuncture needles are about the thickness of a dog’s whisker, so they are virtually painless when inserted. After insertion, the practitioner will bring the needle to the appropriate depth. You will then usually feel a very unique sensation that can vary from tingling, to heaviness, to warmth, or nothing at all. Each person’s experience is different. Should you experience any discomfort, inform the practitioner, and they will adjust the needles accordingly.

t

How safe is Acupuncture? No one has ever died from acupuncture applied by a trained and licensed practitioner. Not a bad track record when you consider that the medicine is guesstimated to be more than 2,500 years old. Needles generally cause no bleeding or pain, and the needles used are disposable. Acupuncturists are trained in exact location, angle as well as depth of insertion of the acupuncture needle to avoid any injuries.
